Leeds United: Amidst “frustration” at Elland Road, Phil Hay provides a brand-new PSR update.

The Athletic journalist reported that both clubs have been subject to the same £83million loss limit under PSR, with Leicester reportedly under investigation while Leeds insist they have remained compliant.

It had previously been claimed by iNews (12 March) that Leeds are at risk of breaching proposed spending rules if they were promoted back to the Premier League, as they would be in breach of a cost cap by around £11million.

Hay also shared that, should they fail to win promotion this season, the club will have to balance the books in the transfer window to avoid financial issues.

Could Leicester City receive a points deduction?

In The Athletic’s story, it was reported that the EFL would like to sanction Leicester for potential financial breaches this season, although, with less than ten games to go, it would be difficult to finalise before the end of the season.

That will also come as a source of frustration for Leeds, as they have closed the gap to the current league leaders, and a potential points deduction could see them climb up the table and give them a stronger chance at automatic promotion, or perhaps winning the title.

It is also said that this has been a source of frustration at Elland Road, with the club competing with Leicester for promotion despite sticking to the rules – much like their contest against Everton.

Comparisons to the situation with Everton in the Premier League can be drawn, with Leeds feeling they have been negatively affected by another club breaching the rules while they have remained within the constraints set on them – perhaps to their own detriment.Daniel Farke must ensure his Leeds United team are up for the fight against Sheffield Wednesday

If Leicester are not punished this season, much like Everton were not punished last season, a potential legal case could be on the cards at Elland Road with the club likely looking to claim damages as they threatened to do with the Premier League side.
