Everton: As word of Sven Botman’s injury spreads, Newcastle will intensify its pursuit of a superstar move and all is…..

Newcastle could step up their transfer chase to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite after Sven Botman was ruled out for up to nine months with a cruciate ligament injury.

Sky Sports reported the injury update via their X account [20 March], insisting it was “really bad news” for Newcastle after Botman underwent a scan and will now undergo surgery.

This comes after Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move to sign Branthwaite this summer, as scouts were in attendance at Old Trafford to watch his display against Manchester United.

Could Newcastle United sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton?

The latest injury news makes Newcastle’s desperation for a new defender even more pressing, with the left-sided centre-back spot now wide open, where Branthwaite could slot straight in and provide an upgrade in defence.

Given Everton’s financial situation, it would not come as a shock to see either Branthwaite leave Goodison Park this summer, with their high valuations likely to be key to the club’s income both towards profit and sustainability rules and their own summer spending.

has been previously reported that Branthwaite could go for as much as £100million, given the level of attention on his outstanding performances during his breakout season under Sean Dyche’s leadership at Goodison Park.

The need to sell players has become clear if Everton want to reinvest in their squad given their difficult financial situation, and the long-term vision of buying players at a younger age before improving them and selling them for a profit.

Kevin Thelwell recently discussed how he was looking to change the transfer policy at Goodison, and these types of key sales could be the starting point for the new direction.
