West Ham United will make another formal approach for Man United defender Harry Maguire this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Hammers boss David Moyes is believed to be a huge admirer of the centre-back and is eager to bring him to the London Stadium next season.

The Irons attempted to sign Maguire, 31, last summer but a deal could not be agreed despite extensive talks with the player.

However, the England international will have just one year remaining on his Man United contract this summer, which has opened the door for West Ham to reach agreeable terms with the Red Devils.

West Ham United want Harry Maguire this summer

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Hammers will make an offer for Maguire regardless of whether Moyes is their manager next season.

Sources have told Football Insider (9 March) that contract talks between the Scotsman and the club have been put on hold until the summer and he is expected to make a final decision on his future at the end of the season.

Maguire’s salary demands were out of the Irons’ reach and he was unwilling to take a pay cut on his reported £190,000-a-week wages at Old Trafford last summer.

He made just eight Premier League starts last season but has revived his career at the Premier League giants having started 13 of the last league 14 games in which he has been available.

West Ham sit seventh in the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw against fourth-place Aston Villa on Sunday (17 March).

They are next set to face Newcastle United away from home on 30 March after the international break.
