In light of an independent commission scheduled for next week, former Everton manager Keith Wyness has advised the team’s legal counsel to get ready.

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted the club’s lawyers should “go for the jugular” when they face an independent commission next week.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted his former club have “more and more to argue” after revelations from the Nottingham Forest case this week.

According to the Daily Mail (19 March), Everton’s second disciplinary hearing judged by an independent commission will take place next week – with a verdict to be announced before 8 April.

The Toffees have pleaded guilty to breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by exceeding the allowed £105million loss for the 2020-23 timeframe.

Everton must ‘proceed at 100 miles an hour’ in Premier League hearing, says Wyness

Nottingham Forest were handed a four-point deduction earlier this week for breaching PSR, while Everton had already been given a six-point penalty (reduced from 10 after appeal) earlier in the season.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “If I was chief executive at Everton right now, I’d be telling my lawyer to go for the jugular next week.

I’d tell him to put his foot on their throat and proceed at 100 miles an hour.

“Because as each commission and their verdicts comes out, we’re finding that Everton have got more and more to argue.
