Everton: 777 Partners make new blunder ahead of takeover at Goodison Park

Yet another blunder from 777 Partners has raised more questions about their eligibility to be Premier League owners as their Everton takeover edges closer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its website on 31 March that, in a new promotional manifesto, Vasco Da Gama was referred to as “a Spanish third tier side” – despite their presence in the Brazillian top-flight.

It is, however, suggested that the takeover appears to be nearing completion at Goodison Park, bringing the drawn-out process to an end at last.

777 Partners slip again in Everton takeover update

While this would surely be a simple administrative error on the part of the group, the apparent lack of knowledge about the clubs in their portfolio shows exactly what the widely-held issue with multi-club ownership is in football.

This dismissive and uninterested nature in which they treat the relatively smaller clubs under their ownership should be seen as a huge negative – if they don’t even know which country their teams play in, how can they be fit to own another football club?

This comes as another addition to the ever-growing list of concerns about 777 – albeit a very minor one – which also boasts concerns from supporters of the clubs in their portfolio who have protested against the ownership.

Some prominent voices in the media have also expressed their concern about the eligibility and suitability of the group to own Everton, with Martin Calladine going as far as to suggest the takeover could “destroy” the club.

With the takeover seemingly edging closer by the day, it is unlikely that the concerns being raised will be ignored if the deal is approved, and this process seems far from over.
