Transfer News: Newcastle United have revealed plans to transfer some of its superstars this summer

Newcastle United may need to seek one “big star” to bankroll their summer transfer activity, according to reports.

A drop-off from last season’s Champions League heroics has resulted in the rumour mill churning about potential exits. Bruno Guimaraes, in particular, has been linked with a £100million move despite signing a new contract six months ago.

NewcastleWorld understands that figure would trigger his release clause – with Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain rumoured to be interested. Alexander Isak, the Magpies’ other main attraction, is also reportedly on Arsenal’s radar.

CEO Darren Eales hinted at Newcastle potentially needing to sell a star player when grilled by reporters in January. FFP/PSR restrictions handicapped Toon chiefs during the winter window, with zero new arrivals despite a crippling injury list.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed it remains a “possibility” that a high-profile star could leave. A lot depends on where the Magpies finish this season, with European qualification creating more wriggle room on the balance sheet.

“It’s also a possibility for Newcastle to sell one big star this summer too,” Romano said. “It will depend on the final verdict about Financial Fair Play but it’s a possibility, from what I’m told.

“Newcastle would love to keep all their stars but some of them, like Bruno Guimaraes, have a release clause, so it’s gonna be time to follow those ones in the summer. I’m sure they also want to add some players to their squad in different positions, so it’s not only about the outgoings.”
