Everton: Following the revelation of Premier League “double standards,” a journalist attacks the “Farcical” note in the PSR ruling.

Everton: Journalist rages at 'Farcical' note in PSR verdict after Premier League 'double standards' emergeJournalist Ian Croll is furious with the Premier League for a “farcical” ruling after Everton were deducted two more points following a second PSR rule breach.

The Toffees have now been deducted eight points this season after a second two-point deduction, and sit just two points above the relegation zone, but the notes from the hearing mention that the Premier League felt the club should have known not to take money from Alisher Usmanov due to his role as an oligarch.

But Liverpool Echo’s Croll reacted on his personal Twitter account (8 April) and noted that the Premier League had a TV deal in Russia until a month after the invasion of Ukraine, and labelled it as “double standards”.

“The Premier League had a TV deal with Russian broadcaster Match TV which ended one month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” he wrote.

“They didn’t anticipate the war but expect its clubs to? Just let that sink in. Double standards. Farcical.”

It seems pretty inexcusable that the Premier League can expect Everton to be planning for a war when considering their sponsorship options.

Firstly because that just isn’t a normal expectation, but also because they didn’t do it themselves with their own deals and they also had a club in the league in Chelsea who were literally owned by someone with a similar “high-risk profile” in Roman Abramovich.

Everton acted as soon as everything happened and they found themselves in a hole, which saw these charges become far more of an issue.

Ultimately though, the Premier League don’t have a clue about what they actually want with this and are just making it all up as they go along.

The rules are supposed to be in place to help with sustainability but they’re quite literally trying to relegate Everton which would put the future of the club at risk. It’s laughable at this point.
