Recent claims that a West Ham star was moving to Manchester City were denied by Frank McAvennie as “loads of nonsense.”

West Ham United: Lucas Paqueta transfer news branded 'nonsense' in Pep Guardiola verdictRecent transfer rumours surrounding a move for West Ham star Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City have been labelled a “load of nonsense” by Frank McAvennie.

The former West Ham forward insisted neither Pep Guardiola nor David Moyes would entertain any sort of transfer discussions with so much left to happen in their respective seasons.

This comes following reports [Santi Aouna, 8 April] that Paqueta had agreed to personal terms ahead of a move to the Etihad this summer, but McAvennie insisted he was not concerned.

McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – insisted as soon as the Hammers start playing well, people want to upset the fans by making up transfer rumours.

Now that West Ham are doing alright it’s like let’s see if we can upset them again by saying these players are getting sold. Now it’s Paqueta again, he’s going to Man City, I heard he’s done a deal, what a load of nonsense,” McAvennie ranted.

I can’t see Pep entertaining anything at the moment with him going so far with the players he’s got to win so many medals, and this year he’ll want to win them all.

David Moyes is certainly not going to be concerned about it because they’re in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. It’ll be interesting but he’s got enough problems without listening to the media telling you a deal’s been done.”

McAvennie’s insistence that no deal would have been agreed before the end of the season for both clubs seems the most likely situation.

With City chasing the Premier League title and Champions League, while West Ham remain in the Europa League, neither club would be looking to entertain transfer business at the moment.

The latest rumours about a deal having been agreed come after the Brazilian reassured fans that he remains focused on the rest of the season at the London Stadium as he would continue to work hard out of respect for all the club has done for him.

A move to City looked more likely last summer with Guardiola reportedly keen to bring him in, but an investigation surrounding alleged betting inconsistencies saw any potential deal called off by the reigning Premier League champions.

However, McAvennie had previously explained that he expects Paqueta to make the move to Manchester City in what would be an “exceptional” deal for the Brazilian – albeit not before the end of the season when the transfer window opens.
