Michail Antonio claims that the £25 million midfielder that Arsenal traded was superior to Steven Gerrard.

West Ham forward Michail Antonio will NOT be joining Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson at Al-Ettifaq, while Aaron Cresswell's move to Wolves has fallen through after they failed to agree a feeArsenal have had some of the best midfield players in Premier League history.

From Patrick Vieira to Santi Cazorla all the way to Martin Odegaard, the Gunners have never been short of midfield talent.

Interestingly, speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has named a former Arsenal player as one of his three best Premier League midfielders in history

The West Ham star named Cesc Fabregas among the best midfielders he’s ever seen in the Premier League, putting the Spaniard above the likes of Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes.

“Me, I’m going with Fabregas, De Bruyne and I’m not going with Stevie, I’m going with Lamps over Stevie. If I had to remove one I still wouldn’t put Stevie in, I’d put Scholes in,” Antonio said.

Fabregas is often forgotten when you talk about the true Premier League greats.

Perhaps it’s because he broke through at such a young age, maybe it’s because his international career was so famous, or maybe it’s because he spent so much time at Barcelona, but it feels like Fabregas is never in this conversation as much as he should be.

The Spaniard was truly incredible during his time in England – yes, he won titles with Chelsea, but it was at Arsenal where he truly shone.

That 2009/10 season may well be the best season any midfielder has ever put together in the top-flight of English football, 15 goals and 15 assists in just 27 appearances – if he’d managed to play all 38 games he could even have joined Thierry Henry as the only other player in the 20/20 club.

There’s a reason Barcelona signed Fabregas for £25m during a time they had Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the midfield, the one-time Arsenal captain was genuinely one of the best players in the world at one point.
