INQUIRIES FROM ALAN SHEARER THE PLACE OF THE TOTTENHAM STAR AFTER THE NEWCASTLE WIN

Tottenham’s weakness reared its ugly head again following the abject showing at Newcastle United.

Only last season, under a completely different management, Spurs were outclassed and humiliated at St James’ Park by shipping six goals, including five inside 20 minutes.

Fast forward to the present and Tottenham have repeated history by getting smashed by Newcastle again, this time losing 4-0.

For many players, it was a game to forget and one they will want to store away never to be seen again.

You feel the game was decided, and smashed out of Ange Postecoglou’s hands, after a crazy few minutes in the first half.

From Micky van de Ven to Pedro Porro, they were all the guilty party when Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon feasted on two quick-fire goals, before the Newcastle hitman added to his tally at the start of the second half and then Fabian Schar added the cherry on top of the cake.

Ever since van de Ven moved to Tottenham in the summer, a lot has been made of the player’s speed.

But as Alan Shearer alluded to, it was nowhere to be seen against his former side, as he told Premier League Productions (13/04/24 at 2:45 pm).

The first three goals were just horror shows from the player and it was by far his worst game in a Tottenham shirt.

Micky van de Ven’s speed

“That’s what we heard all season and we have been saying how quick van de Ven is, but not against Newcastle,” said Shearer.

The north London derby

When you lose such a game, and in that manner, you just want to get back out on the pitch and put the wrongs right.

But Spurs will now have to wait until April 28 to release their frustrations and try to put a much-needed win on the board.

“He’s had a poor day at the office.”
