Everton: Sean Dyche sack verdict shared at Goodison amid ‘disastrous’ 6-0 loss v Chelsea

Sean Dyche is likely to remain in charge of Everton until the end of the season despite the club’s poor run of form, according to Shamoon Hafez.

Writing on the BBC Sport website on Tuesday (16 April), the journalist said just one victory in 15 Premier League games would usually spell the end for any manager, but the “limbo” the Toffees currently find themselves in makes that a difficult prospect.

He added that the “disastrous” 6-0 defeat against Chelsea on Monday (15 April) will have crushed the Blues’ confidence as they look to fight off relegation again this season.

“Everton’s 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea on Monday was a disastrous result which battered their goal difference and will have crushed their confidence too in the final stages of the season,” said Hafez.

“And what of Sean Dyche? Ordinarily, a poor run of one league victory in 15 games would spell the end for any manager, but with the club stuck in limbo waiting to resolve their future, Dyche is likely to remain in charge to try to drag the side on.”

Could Everton sack Sean Dyche?

It would normally be hard to put forward a case for a manager in such a poor run of form, but Everton is a unique scenario.

Dyche has had to deal with an awful lot this season, whether it be points deductions or the takeover saga continuing to drag on.

While the results should certainly be better than what the Toffees have put forward in recent months, is there really anyone who could come in right now and do a better job than him? Probably not.

It’s certainly a situation to revisit in the summer if they do manage to stay in the Premier League this season as this run of form isn’t acceptable.

But it would probably be unwise to sack an experienced manager at this stage of the campaign as it would be an extremely difficult environment for someone new to walk into at Goodison Park.
