After a “nonsense” issue involving Everton, Jamie Carragher blasts “embarrassing” Nottingham Forest.

Jamie Carragher has slammed Nottingham Forest for an “embarrassing” tweet following their Premier League defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side took a step towards Premier League safety with a 2-0 win on Sunday (21 April) but the game was otherwise overshadowed by controversy as Forest were denied three penalties controversially.

The away side’s official X account quickly made a post accusing the PGMOL of appointing a Luton Town fan in Stuart Atwell as the VAR and Carragher has quickly hit back at Forest labelling that claim “nonsense”.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (21 April, 15:52) he said: “It tells you are with the Premier League now and the clubs. Stuart Atwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day today, awful, and they should be rightly criticised for that.

“That could have real implications for Nottingham Forest, I get that. But that, what I’ve just read there on social media is like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing from Nottingham Forest.

I get the frustration but that is rubbish about the VAR is a Luton fan. You can’t get involved in that, you’ve got to show a little bit of class if you’re a football club. The officials had an awful day, but you can’t get involved in that. That’s nonsense.”

What punishment will Nottingham Forest be hit with after Everton controversy at Goodison Park?

Even the most biased of Everton supporters will admit that they would have expected Forest to win at least one penalty given the circumstances at Goodison Park, especially as a couple of the incidents were incredibly clear.

Ashley Young alone could have perhaps conceded three spot kicks and while an incident involving James Tarkowski was much less contentious, there will be a feeling in the away dressing room that they were somehow robbed

As Carragher suggested, the officials had a bad afternoon and if the shoe was on the other foot, Toffees fans would have been just as frustrated, but there is a way of going about these sorts of incidents professionally and this is not the way to do it.

Hopefully, Forest will be hit with some sort of punishment. Everton have not spoken in this manner about the Premier League once this season, despite the constant controversy around Goodison, yet they’ve still been punished.
