Following negotiations, Florian Plettenberg shares the West Ham manager’s position on Julen Lopetegui.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed West Ham bosses like Julen Lopetegui “a lot” after holding talks with the ex-Wolves boss about replacing David Moyes.

Ruben Amorim had emerged as one of the Hammers’ top targets on Monday (22 April), with Lopetegui’s name also in the running.

Talks are said to have been held with Amorim yesterday (23 April), but Plettenberg claims Lopetgeui is also high on the list, and liked by many in high positions at the London Stadium.

The Sky Sports reporter stated that preliminary talks have also been held with Lopetegui, and there is a chance he will become the next manager of the club.

Plettenberg’s post read: “Amorim is currently one of three candidates at West Ham. Lopetegui is also high on the list and currently has chances to become the new coach of West Ham next season as some bosses like him a lot.

Talks have also been held with the former coach of Real Madrid, currently without a club.”

West Ham must not make the same managerial mistake again

After a 5-2 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday, it is hardly surprising to see managerial talk coming out of West Ham, especially considering the polarising view held of David Moyes at the London Stadium.

With the Scot set to depart the club at the end of season on the expiry of his contract, West Ham must make the right appointment in order to avoid any repeat of the situation they found themselves in last time Moyes left.

Manuel Pellegrini came in and the Hammers suddenly found themselves in a relegation fight, before needing to turn back to Moyes, who has since turned them into a side regularly challenging for Europe.

On paper, going after Lopetegui appears the easier option, with the manager currently without a club after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers on the eve of the season.
