Breaking: Newcastle United has a plan in place to win the Europa Conference League.

The final day of this Newcastle United season is now upon us.

Newcastle United fans have three games today to keep a close eye on, all kicking off at 4pm.

We will of course be supporting Newcastle United, however, we will also be backing Bournemouth and Brighton for the day.

First and foremost though, we need a big performance from Newcastle United to ensure the three points.

That would ensure at least seventh place and a higher league finish than Manchester United for the first time since the 1975/76 season.

Hopefully it will get us that Europa Conference League spot (assuming Man City, as expected, win the FA Cup final), though obviously Chelsea unexpectedly losing at home to Bournemouth, would be the icing on the cake for us and we would in that case 100% be sure of European football in some format, regardless of how the FA Cup final a week later played out.

I’m not greedy though

The way the season has played out, I’d be happy enough to have the Europa Conference League to play for next season.

There’s been a lot of mixed opinions on the competition amongst Newcastle fans and generally the competition gets a lot of split opinions from other fans in general. As an example, the Manchester United fans I work with don’t want to know about the Europa Conference League and don’t care for it, but they’d be content with the Europa League.

At the end of the day though, I don’t particularly care about what Manchester United fans demand from their club.

am interested though in how West Ham fans felt about winning the Europa Conference League last season, ending a long wait for a trophy, or even Aston Villa this season when they got to the semi-finals of the competition. While they did lose to Olympiakos, nobody can convince me Aston Villa fans weren’t disappointed at losing that competition. At the end of the day, they haven’t won anything since 1996, so again like West Ham, it’s a good while since they won anything of note.

This then brings me to Newcastle United fans and what they think of potentially playing in the Europa Conference League next season.

I understand we got to see the Champions League before the likes of West ham or Aston Villa etc played in the Europa League Conference and it may feel like a big step down, but at the end of the day, Newcastle United just the like the two I mentioned haven’t won anything in a very long time. So why turn your nose up at a competition we could genuinely win, should we play in it?

We are not seasoned winners in other European competitions, nor do we win trophies domestically on a regular basis. We have been starved of anything since 1969.

Any trophy, regardless whether it’s a Mickey Mouse one, will do! I don’t care what some trolls on social media will say about it.

I can imagine headlines saying something along the lines of the richest club in the world can only win the third tier of European competition or whatever. I respect some people’s opinions that they feel missing out on Europe all together would give us more chance of getting back in the Champions League, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s about winning trophies at the end of the day, not just taking part.

Ten successive seasons in the Champions League would be great for the club and the owners would no doubt, in private at least, prefer that than the odd season in Europe’s elite competition and winning one or more domestic cups and/or the Europa Conference League.

I’m a fan though, not an owner.
