Mike Brown’s Future With the Sacramento Kings

There appears to be increased uncertainty in terms of the future of Mike Brown as head coach of the Sacramento Kings. Although Brown has one more guaranteed year left in his current contract, whether he continues to call the shots for the team from the sidelines beyond the 2024-25 campaign is a big question at the moment.

  1. After engaging in contract extension negotiations, the Sacramento Kings and coach Mike Brown remain with a gulf on a potential deal and have tabled talks, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Brown has one guaranteed season left on his original four-year contract, and there has been hope of reaching a deal that would avoid him entering the final year of his contract in the 2024-25 season, sources said.

Brown made a mark right away for Sacramento, as he steered the Kings to their first playoff appearance in nearly two decades and also won his second Coach of the Year award in his NBA career. However, Sacramento was not able to get back to the postseason proper the following year, as the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Kings in the 2024 Play-in Tournament. In two sessions with Sacramento so far Brown has accumulated a 94-70 record across 164 games.
