The Boston Celtics lead the Indiana Pacers 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Boston has an opportunity to clinch an NBA Finals appearance on Monday in Game 4. However, the Celtics are dealing with some injury trouble.

Kristaps Porzingis has already been ruled out for the contest with a right soleus strain. Jrue Holiday is also listed on the injury report. The Celtics guard is dealing with a non-Covid illness.

Boston is sitting in a good position in the series. Still, they want to avoid giving the Pacers any hope in the Eastern Conference Finals. Having Holiday on the floor would go a long way toward closing out the series on Monday night.

However, the Celtics will not rush him back. If Holiday is unable to play, the Celtics will attempt to clinch an NBA Finals appearance without the star guard. It goes without saying, but that would be much easier said than done.

Holiday is averaging 12.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game so far in the 2024 NBA playoffs. He’s also playing 37.9 minutes per contest, as the Celtics have benefitted from his veteran presence on the roster. Additionally, Holiday’s impressive defensive ability has been important for Boston without question.

So is Jrue Holiday playing in Game 4 tonight vs. the Pacers?

Jrue Holiday’s injury status for Celtics-Pacers Game 4

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sport
Holiday is currently listed as questionable on the NBA injury report. The Celtics are hopeful that he will play, however.

Indiana gave Boston a challenge in Game 1, but the Celtics narrowly earned a 133-128 overtime victory. A Game 1 upset in Boston would have been pivotal for the Pacers. Instead, the Celtics found a way to win and captured momentum early in the series.

The Celtics proceeded to win both Games 2 and 3, and now they are a victory away from winning the Western Conference Finals. Indiana is going to do everything they can to keep the series alive. They are playing at home and could potentially upset Boston in Game 4.

With that being said, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton is listed as questionable for the game with left hamstring soreness. Indiana will need Haliburton on the floor if they want to earn a Game 4 victory.

When healthy, Haliburton is one of the better all-around guards in the league. He’s a strong scorer and excellent distributor.

In the end, the Celtics are on the verge of clinching an NBA Finals appearance. The chances of the Pacers making a 3-0 comeback are slim. Boston knows it is possible, as they almost accomplished the feat last season after trailing the Miami Heat 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. After winning three consecutive games, however, Miami bounced back and won game 7.

Boston is not going to take their foot of the gas pedal, though. Game 4 projects to be a competitive affair. Holiday’s final injury status will go a long way towards determining the outcome of the contest.

When it comes to the question of if Jrue Holiday is playing tonight vs. the Pacers, the answer is maybe.
