Not David Haye or Oleksandr Usyk is the fighter Tony Bellew names as the most skilled opponent he has ever fought.

Tony Bellew hit many heights during his career as he overcome many top names to eventually become world champion in May 2016.

The Liverpool man achieved his dream by fighting at Everton’s Goodison Park and he delivered massively as he won the WBC cruiserweight title after stopping Junior Makabu.

Bellew would spend the following two years engaged in battle against David Haye and Oleksandr Usyk before retiring from the sport in 2018.

Going in against many quality operators, Bellew saw many high calibre fighters, but who was the most skilful?

“Usyk was up there, but I’ve got to say my old mate, James DeGale,” said Bellew when speaking exclusively to DAZN.

“Me and ‘Chunky’ were close all the way through our careers and I’d sparred him when we were both amateurs and also when I needed tough southpaw sparring.

“He could do it all in the ring and he was as tough as anything too. He showed that during his own career as look what he achieved. A proper quality fighter.
