GOOD NEWS: The Boston Celtics have elevated assistant coach Sam Cassell.

Sam Cassell, who played a role in the championship run of the Boston Celtics this year, is due for a promotion by his team.

According to Marc Stein, who is cited by Bobby Krivitsky, the promotion aims to convince Cassell to stay with the team rather than go to another team.

In particular, Cassell’s role in training with Jayson Tatum and helping out the player in developing his post-up game has been important for the Celtics.

Cassell, a former player and three-time NBA champion, has acted as an assistant coach for four different teams since starting his specialist career in 2009.

This year, the guard-turned-coach was considered by the Los Angeles Lakers as a head coach, but the Lakers eventually decided to sign J. J. Redick.
