The Czech National Team announced their annual finalists for the men’s and women’s player of the year today, and who else should be atop that list but David Pastrnak?
Pastrnak has already rocketed into the upper echelons of the men’s side of the Golden Hockey Stick, having won this honor 7 out of the last 8 years; with only Jaromir Jagr’s record 12 being his only competition so far.
Pasta’s year fully deserves it too: he led the Bruins in goalscoring/points during the regular season, was second on the team in playoff goalscoring, was in the top 10 of NHL goalscoring all year, and was instrumental in the Czech national team’s road to the World Championship; scoring the opening goal as well as game winner against Switzerland in the finals.
One can only imagine how much free beer he’s drank over the course of the past two months thanks to this goal.
They haven’t crowned a Czech Sportsperson of 2024 yet, so maybe he’s in the running for that next? I hope so; the crown he got last time was super cool.
