Following their discovery of Manchester United’s contract update, West Ham United makes an unexpected announcement on Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

West Ham United Aaron Wan-BissakaAaron Wan-Bissaka has had no talks over extending his Manchester United contract with West Ham interested in signing him, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter on 2 July that the English defender is among a number of right-backs the Irons like this summer.

At Old Trafford they are reportedly not “actively looking to sell” but are doing “due diligence” on the situation as Wan-Bissaka is now into the final year of his contract.

The Hammers have lost Ben Johnson at the expiry of his own deal despite attempts to keep him, having now signed for Ipswich Town, while Vladimir Coufal also has reported interest from Galatasaray [A Spor, 28 June].

The Irons are going to need help at right-back one way or another this summer and if there is a further exit then it could require multiple new arrivals before the new season starts.

Julen Lopetegui needs to overhaul a defence that badly underperformed in the final campaign under David Moyes, and will have been disappointed to lose Johnson after a late attempt to prevent the Englishman’s exit.

Kyle Walker-Peters has already agreed to join the club amid ongoing talks with Southampton involving the sale of Flynn Downes [Fabrizio Romano, 28 June], and would be a solid signing if the club can get it done.

But Sky Sports reported on 1 July that Tottenham and Brighton could yet provide competition for the Saints defender.
