The Lions entered the season as NFC North title contenders and fans were supportive from the start. During one of the team’s preseason games, fans became so loud that the New York Giants had to count out silence. Their enthusiasm earned them plenty of praise from Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

“Our fans that night were amazing,” Campbell said via NBC Sports. “I mean, for a preseason game, you tell your young players and rookies, ‘This is the first NFL game, it’s going to have a really good atmosphere.’ But God, I didn’t expect that. I don’t think any of them have done that. Unbelievable. It was a packed house for pre-season. It’s great. They are using a silent count on offense – in a preseason game! So that definitely helps. So it’s been great.

The Lions continued their hot start

The win moved the Lions to 3-0 this season and helped extend their lead over the Green Bay Packers to 2-3. After a slow start to the 2022 season that left the Lions out of the playoffs despite a late-season surge, the team is headed in the opposite direction with its best start since the 2011 season.

“We played well for six weeks. That’s four in a row for us. It’s a really great feeling, yeah, that’s for sure,” Goff said via Associated Press.

After Sunday’s win, Campbell credited the defense for contributing to the fast start. The Lions had some injuries, losing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and fullback Emmanuel Moseley suffered season-ending injuries, but still held the Buccaneers to just six points.

Campbell praised the defense for playing solid team play, noting that the defense has been solid for most of the season.

“To be honest with you, I can’t say enough about our defensive performance today and really through five games this year,” Campbell said. “Man, we’re just playing as a unit now. When your defense only allows six points, that says a lot.
