Washington Commanders Might Have Found Their Franchise QB in ……

Washington Commanders may have found their franchise QB in Sam Howell Midway through a season with a losing record, Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera sees franchise leadership potential in quarterback Sam Howell .
The last time the Washington Commanders had a franchise quarterback was during the lifetime of current quarterback Sam Howell.

4 lingering questions for Washington Commanders heading into Week 2
Although the Commanders have encountered some difficulties with guys like Robert Griffin III (RGIII), who seemed to be on that path until injuries interrupted things, and Kirk Cousins, who could have taken a chance had the franchise been handed to him, but they missed the mark at football’s most important position in decades.

Now, however, with sophomore midfielder Howell behind center, Washington coach Ron Rivera thinks they may have finally found their man.
“I know this franchise has been looking for a long time and for the first time in a long time I think this guy could be there,” Rivera said of Howell.
“I really do.
I mean, I just finished looking at a bunch of things, analyzing football and they’re all on point when it comes to quarterbacks.
According to NFL Stats Next Gen.
Howell is near the top of the league in several categories, including average completed passing yards (5.
9), while he is currently sixth in the league in passing yards with 2,146 and 13 passing touchdowns (sixth). story, including his eight interceptions, ranks him second in the NFL today and four of those were against the Buffalo Bills just this past week.
Four interceptions in the remaining seven games played this season is a good mark for most quarterbacks, but especially for a first-year starter at his second graduation university.
But it is his development that will determine how good Howell can be and whether he can become the franchise leader Rivera sees.
“I think Sam is exactly where he needs to be,” assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said when asked about his quarterback’s development.
“He is taking the necessary steps to move forward.
“We just need to find a way to make sure that we continue to take care of the business so that we can continue to improve.

In his first season, RGIII led his team to nine wins with 3,200 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and just five interceptions.
Obviously, Howell has surpassed Griffin in interceptions, but he’s also on pace to surpass him in yards and sacks.

Cousins’s first year as a full-time starter also yielded nine wins, as he threw for over 4,000 yards and threw for 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
That might be too high of a bar for Howell considering Cousins has done this in his fourth NFL season, but again, the young quarterback is on his way defy all these statistics this year.
Again, statistics are numbers and we can’t paint a portrait of a franchise quarterback from them.
But since Rivera claims to have found the Commanders’ next potential savior, the numbers certainly don’t prove him wrong.
The only one who could overturn the entire claim would be the number of sacks that Howell took—not all of which can be blamed on him, of course—but that number is down to one compared to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.
If this is any indication of what’s to come this weekend for the New England Patriots, then Howell could take it a step further by fact-checking the bold claims about the violence of his coach.
