Alan Pardew has delivered his take on whether or not David Moyes should be handed a new contract at West Ham United.
West Ham boss David Moyes is really feeling the heat right now after his side’s poor run of form over the past two months or so, and Alan Pardew will know all about what that feels like.
The 62-year-old was sacked as Hammers manager way back in 2006 with his side in real danger of relegation.
Whilst the situation is not the same with Moyes right now, large sections of fans are fed up with the football that he has been implementing, and the likes of Arne Slot are apparently being lined up to replace the 60-year-old.
The thing is, if Moyes fails to secure West Ham a top seven finish this season, and we get knocked out of Europe either in the last-16 or the next round, it will have to go down as an unsuccessful campaign.
His contract is up in the summer, and I’m convinced he won’t be handed a new deal unless we finish the season in spectacular fashion. But does Pardew agree with that?
And he responded when asked if he believes the Scot deserves a new deal at West Ham, when speaking to talkSPORT (March 10th, 7:42 pm):
“West Ham are seventh. They are 1-0 down, right, in the European game, and I think they will turn them over on Thursday actually. He is above De Zerbi, Poch, Silva, Thomas Frank, everyone is going, ‘Oh, they are lovely, how they play’. Brighton haven’t won for six games, Brentford haven’t won for a while. There they are sitting seventh, West Ham, and above them are Man United, Tottenham, okay Aston Villa, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. That is probably them top of the league. You could argue they should be above Villa. So, stats-wise it doesn’t add up – David Moyes Out. It doesn’t add up to me. You know, this journey that they have been on, they have won the Cup, let’s see where that decision is at the end of the year. They should offer him the contract, and, in my opinion, it should be down to David Moyes and whether he feels it is time to move on to a new agenda for himself or to stay at the Hammers.”
Now, Pardew is someone who always set up his team to win games, and he instilled a proper attacking mindset into his players.
The problem with Moyes is that he has reached his ceiling in charge of West Ham, and I genuinely don’t believe that he is the man to take us to the next level.
We’re all incredibly grateful for the job that he has done at the London Stadium, but the football that he deploys is not sustainable, and it’s certainly not going to help us make genuine progress to a point where we can challenge for a top six finish.
Alan Pardew delivered his take on David Moyes yesterday and it really surprised me. Of all the people to completely miss the point regarding the West Ham fans’ feeling about the Scot, I really didn’t expect Pards to fall into the same trap.
