Jordan Pickford’s recent actions have disappointed Alan Myers at Everton.

Alan Myers has defended Jordan Pickford after seeing the Everton goalkeeper being criticised for his personality.

Pickford, 30, is certainly an eccentric goalkeeper who despite his undoubted talent in between the sticks can also be a bit of a showman and a wind-up merchant.

It’s led to him getting into trouble in the past and the former Sunderland shot-stopper does have his critics due to it.

However, Sky Sports journalist Myersdoesn’t believe Pickford should be talked down on a count of his personality when most players in the sport don’t show any kind of character at all.

“In a time when people crave more personality players, it’s disappointing to see some using Jordan Pickford’s to criticise him,” said Myers via his personal X account on 20 March.

He has a passionate approach to his game, he is also a great keeper and rightly takes his place as England’s No. 1.”

Will Jordan Pickford stay at Everton if they are relegated?

Everton may be four points clear of the drop zone as it stands but Sean Dyche’s men are in rotten form, having failed to win in the Premier League since 16 December.

They’ve picked up just five points from the last 33 available in the league and there’s also the threat of yet another points deduction being slapped upon the Goodison Park club.

As a result, Everton could unfortunately still be relegated and that would throw the future of a lot of players up in the air – including Pickford.

The England number one would obviously be someone who a lot of clubs would be interested in.

However, as reported by The Times in February 2023, Pickford’s contract at Goodison does not include a release clause that will become active if the Blues are relegated.

That means that if at least the worst does happen, Everton can control what they get for the England goalkeeper and potentially make a lot of money from him that would help them in their situation.
